Jared S. Wonderfully crafted songs. Vocals produced like an instrument. Cold but light. Adventurous yet familiar. Been following their work since VENA. Very fine album. Favorite track: Follow Me.

about

Norwegian duo Pyke was formed when vocalist Kjersti Lindtveit met guitarist Benjamin Pyke back in 2006. Their name comes from Benjamin’s english surname and was chosen simply because it felt unique. Before they met they had spent countless hours rehearsing and playing gigs with different bands, but after a while they both felt the need to write their own material. They decided to start creating their own musical universe and this was the beginning of Pyke.

Despite already having big plans for their musical future back in 2006 it took a long time for them to figure out their musical identity. After releasing their first single “Intimacy” with Pyke back in 2012 they knew they were on to something.

They decided to contact producers Martin Bowitz (Cold Mailman, The Spectacle) and Jørgen Smådal Larsen (Lukestar, Kråkesølv) and show their demos. They connected with the material, and together with Pyke they agreed on how they wanted the end result to be. All this triggered an “on and off” 3-year studio process with Benjamin and Kjersti’s studies coming in between.

The result turned out to be their debut album Detox, 8 tracks with cinematic indie rock and dazzling dream pop combined. The albums lyrics and music can be seen as a reflection of the duos own life narrative. The album explores the tense and bittersweet state of regret and disappointment, leading to a search for detoxification from all that.

Pyke’s debut album Detox is self-released through their own label Betty & Selma Sounds, and was released October 7th 2016.
